THE GROWER
JOHN FRIESEN
John's journey into farming began at a young age, working alongside his mother and four siblings hoeing weeds in the cotton fields during the summer. At age 14, he joined his father full-time on the small family farm, a commitment that nurtured his deep-rooted passion for agriculture. After exploring a few different jobs, John quickly realized that farming was his true calling. He returned to the fields, working on another farm for five years, during which he began acquiring his own harvesting equipment.
2008
John took over the farm, growing cotton and peanuts with great dedication. His innovative spirit led him to explore alternative crops, eventually turning to grape growing.
2014
After thorough research and valuable advice from vineyard owners and winemakers, John planted his first five acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in 2014. Today, his vineyard flourishes with 33 acres of nine different grape varieties, producing grapes that contribute to many award-winning wines.
2023
He further diversified his agricultural endeavors by establishing a small cow-calf operation with about 70 Black Angus heifers, which he plans to expand in the coming years. John's love for farming and grape growing is reflected in the thriving and diverse agricultural ventures he proudly manages.
