THE VINEYARD
Farming grapes in the Texas High Plains is both a challenge and a joy, requiring a deep understanding of the land and climate. The region's unique combination of high elevation, ample sunlight, and cool nights creates the perfect conditions for grape growing, but it also demands careful attention to detail. John Friesen thrives in this environment, relishing the opportunity to work with nature to coax the best from his vines. The Texas High Plains' rich soil and semi-arid climate result in grapes with concentrated flavors, making it an ideal location for producing high-quality wines.
John Friesen's dedication to sustainable farming practices is evident in every aspect of his vineyard. He employs techniques that protect the environment, such as using cover crops to prevent soil erosion and enhance soil health, and practicing integrated pest management to minimize chemical use. John’s hands-on approach ensures that each vine receives the care it needs, from pruning to harvesting. His commitment to sustainability not only supports the health of his vineyard but also promotes biodiversity and long-term ecological balance. This holistic approach to farming reflects John's deep respect for the land and his desire to leave it better for future generations.
The result of John Friesen’s meticulous care and sustainable practices is a harvest of extraordinary grapes that produce award-winning wines year after year. Each variety, from the robust Cabernet Sauvignon to the aromatic Petit Manseng, is nurtured to its fullest potential, resulting in grapes with exceptional flavor and balance. The quality of John's grapes has garnered recognition, with wines crafted from his vineyard consistently winning awards. No vineyard would be complete without a loyal vineyard dog, and Harley, a spirited 3-year-old, is the heart of Friesen Vineyards. Belonging to John’s oldest daughter, Susanna, Harley brings joy and companionship to the fields. She loves to run and chase after cars but her true passion lies in the vineyard. Whenever Susanna is working among the vines, Harley never leaves her side, faithfully accompanying her all day. Harley’s presence not only enhances the daily work routine but also embodies the harmonious relationship between family, nature, and the vineyard, making every moment spent in the fields even more delightful.
